I Tattooed My Eyebrows Again! – Before and After

Hello Lovelies!

I’m so excited to finally share my eyebrow tattoo touch up experience with you today. It’s been 9 months since I had them retouched and 3 years since I first got them tattooed (read about it here).

Before we get started, let me remind you how my brows looked before any tattoos. So sad right?

Pretty Gossip Eyebrow Before Any Tattoo

All tattoos fade over time and need to be retouched.  After 3 years, I was still happy with my slightly faded tattoo (see below) but I decided to go in for a touch up. The main reason was because the tattoo served as my outline when I filled in my brows with a brow pencil for a more dramatic look. As the tattoo faded, it got more difficult to fill them in… guess I got used to having the tattoo as my guide!

Pretty Gossip Eyebrow After 3 Years

My tattoo artist (Sherri) did such a great job on my original tattoo I didn’t think twice about going back to her for my touch up. You can read about how I found her, factors I considered when selecting a tattoo artist, the costs, contact info, and aftercare information here.

Here’s a picture of Sherri’s cute studio. She’s obsessed with brows. If you visit her, tell her Pretty Gossip sent you :)

After Sherri inspected my faded brows, we decided to go with a dark brown. She put numbing cream on my brows and wrapped them with plastic. If you’ve never gotten a tattoo before, go in expecting pain. They hurt, so embrace the numbing cream. Let it sit there as long as possible.

After a few minutes, Sherri wiped off the cream and went to work. 10 minutes later, my brows were done and the best part was that there was no pain!

Not sure if she switched out her numbing cream for a better one since my initial tattoo, but it worked perfectly! My eyes didn’t water and the tattooed area didn’t swell up at all either! It was amazing!

Check out my entire eyebrow tattoo journey in the before and after photos below. You’ll see my brows every step of the way, from the very beginning to now! Ignore the bad lighting and oily forehead in the first photo. :) That photo was taken before I started blogging so I didn’t have many photos to select from.

– Bare Brow
My poor sparse brows. I couldn’t go out anywhere without drawing my brows in. I’m so glad I found Sherri.

– Almost 3 Years After Original Tattoo
I waited 3 years before going back for a touch up. Probably a lot longer than most people wait, but I was happy with my natural brow look. My brows had lost a bit of definition, but for the most part they looked good. You can check out my original tattoo photos here.

– Immediately After Retouching
You probably noticed that Sherri drew in short lines/hairs. Within a month’s time, the tattoo lines AND color softened making them look super natural. As with any tattoo, the tattoo will scab and heal. My scabs were fully healed within 1.5 weeks. More about aftercare here.

– 9 Months After Retouching
I’m so happy with the results. My brows look natural and NOBODY can tell that I’ve had them tattooed. Most people are shocked if/when I tell them.

Some might think that there’s not a huge difference between my before and after retouching photos above. But if you put them side by side, you’ll notice the difference. The results are exactly what I wanted. Natural looking (tattooed) brows that don’t look 100% done. I didn’t want brows that would look out of place if I had no makeup on (which is most of the time). I wanted just enough eyebrow so I wouldn’t feel like the Mona Lisa all the time. I’m in love with my natural looking brows and love that they’ll serve as an outline for those days I want to fill them in for a more dramatic look.

Just for fun, below is my pre-tattooed brow next to my retouched brow. What a difference!

If you’re considering getting an eyebrow tattoo or any makeup tattoo for that matter, I highly encourage you to read my original tattoo post here. I talk about things to consider before tattooing your face(!), different types of tattoos, costs, aftercare, and how to search for your perfect tattoo artist.

I hope this post has been helpful for you!
